Phungula’s family member Khawulani Phungula was pleased with the honour and said that Phungula played a huge role in the liberation of South Africa.

The historic event on Tuesday, May 27, started with a parade by the police and firefighters, led by ANC veteran Jeff Radebe as well as the Harry Gwala District Municipality mayor Zamo Nxumalo and other mayors.
