A KOKSTAD-based entertainment agency called Ama-Explosives hosted a dance competition at the Bhongweni tennis courts last Saturday, April 26, to uncover local talent and expose young people to a broader scale of entertainment.
Agency founder Patrick Jansen established the initiative last year after he discovered a need to promote local artists and to keep young people active rather than hanging around the streets.
He said areas such as Kokstad lack dance opportunities for young people.
“I established a programme called Explosive Rhythms to nurture and expose local dance talent on a broader scale and usher new artists into South Africa’s vibrant entertainment industry. Our goal has always been to create a platform where raw talent meets real opportunity,” he explained.
He added that the agency, working with its board members of five dancers, has been dedicated to discovering and showcasing local artistic talent through its Explosive Rhythms campaign.
He said the agency provides platforms for dancers, musicians and performers to shine.
“Seeing these exceptional dancers rise to the challenge and watching our community rally behind them shows just how powerful grassroots art can be,” he stated.
All winners in the King and Queen of Street Dance Battle 2025 were voted for through TikTok.
Dancer Naymer was crowned King of Street Dance Battle, Khanyisa Nqoko was crowned Queen of Street Dance Battle, while Ghost Yazo Zonke was honoured with the title of Prince of Street Dance Battle, and Khanyisile Nqoko received the Princess of Street Dance Battle title.
Jansen thanked judges and sponsors as well as the social media community that played a meaningful role in identifying the winners.
“We extend our gratitude to the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture for their generous donation of trophies, symbolising governmental support for youth culture and the arts,” he said and mentioned Kei-Kei Motor Spares and Tranquility Lounge which provided the top-quality sound system. Adrian De Kok was appreciated for his monetary contribution and ‘Eug’ for providing the crowns.
